Shanky Smith Breaks Record... Again Coming in to Saturday night's championship race, the team had one goal -- Break into the 18's. They did just that. The team set the car up for specifically to run one fast lap, and that is indeed what Shanky did. Shanky came out and threw down a blistering fast lap of 18.857 seconds around the speedway. He then shut it down, passing up the opportunity at a second lap. That lap not only broke the track record, but started him on pole for the 25 lap championship race. He came out of the gates strong and proceeded to take what started to be an easy victory. That was, until an incident late in the running nearly put him out of the race. Luckily enough, Shanky kept his machine off of the wall and in running condition. Track officials ruled rough driving to be the cause of the incident, and awarded Shanky his position back at the front of the pack. Shanky went on to take the victory, holding off Billy Ammons. |
