18th Place, Carbon Monoxide, Oxygen Highlight Shanky's Sidewinder 125

The Shanky Racing team came through the gates Saturday night at South Alabama Speedway with one goal in mind. Seat time. Shanky brought his Pro Late Model, to run in the Viper Series Super Late Model Sidewinder 125. Knowing he was going to be down on horsepower, the main goal for the evening was to get Shanky more laps in the car.

Shanky qualified 21st for the 125 lap event. His lack of horsepower compared to the Super Late Models became evident early as Casey Smith, who dominated much of the race, put the #17 Century 21/Tartan Pines Chevy Monte Carlo down a lap on lap 15.

Shanky became to feal ill inside his machine, and decided to come in and park it for the evening after completing 68 laps. The team quickly came to find out that a head gasket was leaking, exposing the Spring Hill driver to Carbon Monoxide. Shanky was given oxygen, and within a short time felt ok.

Shanky's official finish position was 18th.

The next late model race for the Shanky Racing team is scheduled for June 2 at South Alabama Speedway when the Pro Late Model Viper Series comes to town for the Pigmy 100.
