Shanky Brings Home Rattler Street Stock Checkers!
By Paul Boswell  -- March 4, 2007

Shanky Smith started way back in 15th for Friday night's Street Stock Rattler feature at South Alabama Speedway. By the completion of lap 8, Shanky had brought the #17 machine all the way up to the top five. Two laps later, he found himself in 4th. Shanky followed Billy Ammons to the top three on lap 18. A lap 27 caution involving Ammons and then race leader Jeff Rudd allowed Shanky to inherit the lead, and go on to his third straight Rattler victory in the Street Stock division.

Shanky Turns Bad Luck Into Top 10 In Pro Late Ratter 125

Saturday night marked another first for Shanky Smith. This was the first time he would compete Rattler Weekend in his Late Model car. Shanky started 13th for the Pro Late Model Rattler 125 at South Alabama Speedway. He showed his strength early, picking up a couple positions in the early going.

Bad luck then came in to effect, as Shanky got caught up in an accident, not of his doing. The team did excellent work to get the #17 Tartan Pines/Phoenix Monte Carlo repaired enough for Shanky to continue racing, less his hood and front fenders.

Shanky overcame the bad luck however, and stayed strong. He wound up slowly picking off positions as other drivers had troubles. He persistence paid off, as he was able to wind up with a 10th place finish, just 2 laps down.
